About the SARF Bursary Programme

SARF also supports students through its Study Bursary programme in engineering and transport-related fields.
Fields of Study Covered By the Bursary
As an interested applicant, you must be studying in one of the following areas to qualify for the SARF bursary:
- Road Engineering (Civil, Traffic, Bridge, Pavement, Transportation Planning)
- Road Transport Management
- Road Transport Economics
- Road Safety Engineering
What the Bursary Offers
This is a partial bursary - the amount is determined by the SARF Council based on need. Bursary funds are paid directly to the tertiary institution on behalf of the student.
Recipients are expected to:
- Submit six-monthly progress reports
- Present on their study topic to a local SARF branch
- Register as an associate (individual) member of SARF (annual subscription applies)

Requirements & Eligibility
Who Can Apply? Eligibility Criteria
To apply, first you have to meet the following requirenments
- South African or SADC country resident
- Registered for a recognised qualification at a South African tertiary institution
- National Diploma students must have passed first semester (S1) exams
- Degree students must have passed first-year exams
- Preference given to full-time students (part-time/distance learning considered)
- Preference to applicants intending to work in the road transport industry after graduation
- Preference to employees of SARF member organisations
Required Supporting Documents
As with any bursary applications, supporting documents have to accompany your application.
When submitting your application, include:
- Certified copy of ID document, Grade 11 results and Matric certificate
- Most recent tertiary academic results (on institution letterhead)
