The City of Ekurhuleni offers its 2026 Community Bursary Programme to financially needy students residing within the municipality, supporting access to higher education across various fields at university or TVET college.

The City of Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality is one of South Africa’s largest urban municipalities, committed to improving education and skills development among its residents. Requirements & Eligibility

Before applying these are the requirements to meet:

  • You must be a South African citizen
  • You must reside within the City of Ekurhuleni municipality
  • You must have completed Matric or be currently in Matric
  • You must be accepted or provisionally accepted at a recognised tertiary institution
  • You must demonstrate financial need (proof of household income required)
  • You must have good academic results
  • You must be willing to contribute to community development initiatives if required

Preference may be given to students pursuing scarce skills fields and those from disadvantaged backgrounds.

Required Documentation

Documents must not be older than 3 months when applying. Additionally, they must be clear and eligible.

  • Certified copy of your South African ID document
  • Certified copy of your Matric certificate
  • Proof of acceptance or registration at a recognised and accredited tertiary institution
  • Proof of residence within the City of Ekurhuleni 
  • A motivational letter (maximum 1 page) outlining why you should be awarded the bursary
  • Proof of household income, including:
  • Recent salary slips, or
  • Stamped bank statements accompanied by an affidavit
  • Proof of social grant income (if applicable)
