Application Process

To apply for the Shoprite Bursary, applicants must apply online via the Shoprite careers or bursary portal.

Requirements & Eligibility

Applicants must satisfy the following minimum entry criteria before applying (please note that failure to meet all requirements may result in your application not being considered):

  • You must be a South African citizen
  • You must have completed Matric or be currently in Matric
  • You must be studying or intend to study towards a qualification in one of the bursary fields listed above
  • You must be accepted or registered at a recognised and accredited tertiary institution in South Africa
  • You must have a strong academic record
  • You must have achieved good marks in subjects relevant to your field of study (e.g. Mathematics for Accounting or Logistics)
  • You must demonstrate leadership potential, commitment, and a strong work ethic
  • You must be willing to participate in vacation work, internships, or work-back programmes (if required by Shoprite)

Additional Stream-Specific Requirements

Depending on the field you apply for, additional requirements may apply:

Accounting (CA Stream):

  • Minimum of 70% in Mathematics
  • Strong overall academic performance
  • Intention to qualify as a Chartered Accountant

Supply Chain / Logistics:

  • Good results in Mathematics or Mathematical Literacy
  • Interest in retail and distribution systems

Agricultural Sciences:

  • Background or interest in agriculture or food systems

Information Technology (if available):

  • Strong performance in Mathematics and/or Physical Science

Required Documentation

  • Certified copy of your South African ID document
  • Certified copy of your Matric certificate (or latest Grade 12 results if currently in Matric)
  • Certified copies of your full academic transcripts (if currently studying)
  • Proof of acceptance or registration at a recognised tertiary institution (on official letterhead)
  • Updated Curriculum Vitae (CV)
  • Motivational letter explaining why you deserve the bursary
  • Proof of household income, including:
  • Recent payslips (if parent/guardian is employed)
  • Affidavit (if unemployed)
  • Proof of SASSA grant or pension (if applicable)
