What the Fellowship Covers for Africa
This is a fully funded fellowship. Selected postgraduates will get the following:
- Up to 3 years of funding
- $15k that'll cover stipend, along with travel expenses and relevant activities
- Access to a Google Research mentor
How to Apply: Google Fellowship Programme
Unfortunately, you can't apply directly. You must be nominated by your university. That means your department selects you, then submits your application to Google. Up to 3 students can be nominated in Africa.
Applications for 2026 opened in March and close 30 April 2026.

Requirements & Eligibility
Eligibility and Requirements for Google Programme
You must be a full-time PhD student in computer science or a related field. Along with this, you should have completed your graduate coursework by the time the fellowship starts.
You cannot apply if:
- You’re a Google employee (or immediate family)
- You already have a similar industry-funded fellowship
- You’re not nominated by your university
Your application is judged on research quality and impact, academic performance, leadership potential.
